Monthly Historical Society Meeting
The April 17 meeting of the Colfax Historical Society was called to order at 7:01 p.m. by President Kevin Williams, and he welcomed everyone. Members present were Kevin, Karen Russell, Peggy Dvorak, Stanley Daft, Judy Sullivan, BJ Williams, Keith Hidok, Cynthia Sapp, Larry Hurto, Randy Marchant, Jim and Norma Warnock, Larry Daft, Dennis Lind, Lynn and Rebecca Evans.
Minutes of the March 20 meeting were read and approved. Treasurer’s report was presented and approved. A card was sent to Joy Conley and her address was given out to everyone. Larry H. sent a “Thank You” letter to Rev. R.E. Williams of Walnut Creek, Calif., for his donation of five James Norman Hall books which will be added to our library collection.
The Gift Shop decals have been ordered and Kevin will place them on the wall when they arrive.
Keith plans to start installing the bricks on the east wall of the entryway in June.
Keith and Randy are working on securing a tractor show on our grounds during the Mineral Springs Celebration Saturday, Aug. 26. There will be more information to follow.
A Tea is being considered and will possibly be Saturday, July 22. The committee of Norma, Peggy, Randy and Judy Bond will be working on the plans and report back.
A dinner show, with alcohol, is being talked about to be Saturday, Oct. 21. Peggy, Larry D., Lynn and Rebecca have volunteered to work on this project.
Kevin suggested we have a Policy Review Committee and those that will be joining him are Lynn and Randy. They will report back at the next meeting.
Rebecca said she is still working on our web page. She is taking pictures and getting more ideas. Judy has volunteered to be in charge of checking in donated items and getting them recorded. Peggy has the 2017 Membership List completed and everyone will get a copy at the next meeting.
David Lester of Belle Plaine, has donated a “Close-to Nature” canvas houses catalog that has pictures and is in very good shape.
The museum will be open on the second Saturday of the month, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 13. The volunteers at the open museum will be Jim and Norma from 10 a.m. to noon and from noon to 2 p.m. will be Kevin and BJ. Admission is free.
Next meeting will be at 7 p.m. May 15 and is open to anyone who would like to attend.
